About the register
Public Record is a demonstration collection: six reference studies of civil structures, each built from one freely licensed photograph and a sheet describing what it shows.

What a record holds
A record states what can be seen: materials, structure, how the thing meets the ground or the water, and what surrounds it. Where a photograph cannot tell us something, such as a location, a builder or a date of construction, the record leaves it out.
How to read it
Read the register from the top, or open the Work page to see each series together. Every record sheet lists others from its series, so a bridge pier can be compared with a bridge arch without leaving the page.
The photographers dedicated these photographs to the public domain under CC0 1.0. The register, its series and its wording are fictional, written for this demonstration; they do not describe a real archive, client or commission.
